COVID 19

COVID 19 has created a host of challenges for individuals and businesses across the world, including AABDS and our participants and employees. As the reoccurrence and severity of the virus is constantly changing, it can be difficult to know the best course of action to for your personal safety and that of your participant.

Please follow these simple guidelines below.

Employees

  • If you display symptoms of COVID, please immediately get tested by either obtaining a RAT test or attending a testing centre.

  • If you test positive, please alert AABDS Management as soon as possible and isolate for 7 days.

  • Please only return to work once you have received a negative COVID test.

Participants

  • If a participant displays symptoms of COVID, is being tested for COVID or refuses to get tested despite showing symptoms, please inform AABDS Management immediately.

  • Offer to assist the participant in seeking a COVID test, without close contact to the participant.

  • If a participant does test positive for COVID, please inform the office immediately. We will inform any other workers who support the participant.

  • If you have seen a participant in the last 5 days who has tested positive, please do a COVID test yourself to confirm you have not been infected as well.

  • If a participant has symptoms but tests negative, please encourage them to wear a mask when appropriate.

  • If you have symptoms but have tested negative, you are required to wear a mask when working.

Supporting participants who have tested positive to COVID-19.

  • Support is possible even if a participant is isolating, as long as they wish to have it. There are two different ways we can support participants:

    • Contact support: if the participant needs direct contact for support, and the employee feel comfortable providing it, please get in contact with the office and we will arrange for you to pick up the full-body-wear PPE, that you will be required to wear when directly supporting a participant who is isolating with COVID.

    • Non-contact support: this includes suppling the participant with things they may need while isolating (groceries, medication, RAT tests etc.) When dropping items off to a participant, please wear a mask (or more PPE gear if available), and drop it at their door.

    • If you have to purchase something on behalf of a participant, our procedure for payment is to:

    • Go to the participant’s residence while they are still indoors and drop off the consent form for them to complete and sign.

    • Once you are away from the door, they can pick up the consent form, sign it and leave out the necessary funds (cash or card) for the purchase.

    • Once they return inside, approach the door and pickup funds and form using PPE gloves.

    • After purchases have been made, return to their house, leave any change and receipts at door and inform participant that the items have been dropped off. You are required to provide receipts of any purchases you make for the participant.

If you do not feel comfortable attending a support due to a participant isolating, please let AABDS Management know and we will arrange another worker to support the participant.

In all of our offices, we have RAT kits and PPE available for both participants and staff when necessary.
