EARLY CHILDHOOD APPROACH
AABDS's Early Childhood Approach (ECA) is about giving your child the best possible start in life. If your child is younger than 9 years old, you may be able to access our ECA through the NDIS. Our early childhood approach is about helping you support your child to learn new skills. It will also help your child to develop and take part at home and in the community.
AABDS follows the National Guidelines on Best Practice in Early Childhood Intervention.
Our person-centred early childhood approach ensures that children, and their families, are treated with respect, care, and individualised attention. We do this by understanding the unique needs of each child, providing the right supports, and enabling our participants to thrive within their environment.
-
Embrace uniqueness
We will work to recognise, respect and celebrate the unique identities, qualities and traits of our participants, rather than reinforcing conformity.
-
A considered approach
We will think and act in ways that are considerate of our participants' unique cultural and social experiences.
-
Informed decision making
We will ensure that our participants' and their families' perspectives and experiences are taken into consideration to inform decision making.
-
Embrace diversity
AABDS understands that there is diversity in the needs and abilities of our participants, and as such, we will work to challenge biases and misconceptions.
-
Establish priorities
We will help to align our participants' goals and celebrate their progress.
-
Tailor supports
We will work to adapt supports to our participants' and their families' unique context.
-
Respond with understanding
We will take the time and effort to understand every situation and respond with care and the appropriate support.
-
Uphold best practice
We will respect our participants' rights and dignity by aligning our support and interaction with best practice.
-
Advocate and connect
We will understand our role of advocacy and help make meaningful and purposeful connections with other providers.
-
Collaborate
We will work with our participants and their formal and informal supports to create dynamic relationships and build a supportive team.
-
Be inclusive
We will ensure our participants' and their family are enabled to interact and participate within their community.
-
Build strength
We will work to recognise our participants' and their families' abilities, knowledge and capacity.
